Congratulations to Urdd as it celebrates its centenary!
It’s wonderful to be working at Urdd Gobaith Cymru’s famous Llangrannog residential site, on the exact date that the organisation celebrates its centenary and breaks two world records!
The Llangrannog site was founded in 1932, 10 years after Urdd Gobaith Cymru's inception, as its first permanent centre. The fantastic coastal location will be a familiar and nostalgic site to the multitude of children who have visited the destination on residential school trips over the years.
We are currently working at the site to help install a brand-new kitchen, 204-seat dining area and sleeping block, containing nine ensuite rooms to sleep 58 people. Energy-saving technologies being installed at the site include air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and solar photovoltaic (PV) panels – generating 10.38kW covering 54m2.
Now celebrating its 100th anniversary, Urdd Gobaith Cymru is a national voluntary youth organisation with over 55,000 members between the ages of 8 – 25 years old. It provides opportunities through the medium of Welsh for children and young people in Wales, to enable them to make positive contributions to their communities.
Since 1922, the Urdd has provided opportunities for more than 4 million children and young people in Wales to enjoy sporting, cultural, residential, humanitarian and volunteering experiences through the medium of Welsh.
We would also like to congratulate Urdd Gobaith Cymru for achieving two GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ on its hundredth birthday!
The two world records are:
- The largest number of videos of people singing the same song uploaded to Twitter in one hour — the record was 250 — the Urdd and its members uploaded 1176.
- The largest number of videos of people singing the same song uploaded to Facebook in one hour.
